Deconstructing Constructs

I like to think of myself as someone who questions often enough that I don't get caught up in antiquated frameworks but recently I recognized my worldview had grown smaller. Unbeknownst to me, I'd been in a reactive mode to the things going on in the world, the thoughts and ideas that exist around me and the day-to-day minutia.

It's common for us to look around and cleanse our lives of the things that no longer serve us, but it's less common to question our framework that defines the parameters of our lives.

What is the construct we're using to define the things we do and don't?

I recently wrote a song for our next album called 'The Circles' with a line that states:

So caught up in the motion
I just ignored the ocean
'til it carried me away

In the story of the new album (more to come on this later), one of the main characters realizes she was so caught up in what was right in front of her and didn't realize the bigger shifts in motion.

As we enter 2021, I'd love to encourage us - me most of all - to go beyond just evaluating our daily lives to also pay attention to the thought process that defines how we create our lives. Through this, we can play a more active role in shaping our life and where we want to spend our attention.
